Help Save Penelope
Penelope is 14-month-old daughter, a bright and joyful little girl who is the light of our lives. She is loved beyond measure by her mummy, daddy, and a devoted extended family who adore her cheekiness, infectious smile and the happiness she brings to everyone around her.
Until recently, Penelope was a healthy, active toddler despite living with the heart condition, Dilated Cardiomyopathy which she was diagnosed with at a month old. For months, medication helped her manage this condition, but two weeks ago, Penelope suffered a sudden cardiac arrest whilst undergoing a routine medication change at Leeds Children’s Hospital. She was placed on ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) support – a machine that is keeping her alive. However, ECMO is only a temporary measure, and her doctors have told us that she cannot remain on it for much longer.
Penelope needs a Berlin Heart, a mechanical device that can take over the work of her heart and give her the time she needs to either recover or receive a transplant. This device is her only chance at survival, but due to a shortage of beds capable of supporting this treatment across the UK NHS, Penelope may not be able to access it. Without a Berlin Heart or another solution, she will die.
We are devastated, but we refuse to give up on our beautiful baby girl. Penelope is a fighter, and we are doing everything in our power to give her the chance she deserves.
Your support means the world to us. Whether you’re able to donate, share Penelope’s story, or help raise awareness about these vital issues, you are helping to give our daughter and other children a fighting chance. We cannot thank you enough for standing with us during this heartbreaking time.
With love, Penelope’s Family & friend’s.
